"HOMERECORDING"
Concert for 8 channel surround sound, video and cello
World Premiers by Michael Gordon (USA), Annie Gosfield (USA), Markus
Muench (D), Helga
Pogatschar (D)
At the end of the 1970s, home recording meant the 4-track cassette
deck; today this seems anachronistic, even though Bruce Springsteen
recorded an entire album with this device. 2011 is the era of the
computer, of sound cards and software programs; in their own home,
musicians and composers have at their disposal an enormous repertoire
of possibilities for mixing, arranging and composing.
In addition to the image of the composer who works with pencil and
paper, who creates a notation for different
performers, we wave today the image of the one who created his own
periphery of computers, instruments, sound modules and recording
facilities. The result is a new distinct sound world that already has
the stamp of individuality and personality by way of the recording and
the production of sounds.
Composers work at home in "Homerecording" using their own
possibilities: part of
today`s repertoire are overdubs with musical instruments,
electronic sound production as well as specially digitally recorded
field recordings. Works with video elements in which electronics
interact with a live cellist are now "home" made.

Markus Muench: „Alien Invasion“
„12 musicians start off with the same sound basis, some bring
their own documentary source, and then each one proposes a departure
towards a « new noise » as Rimbaud had, in his
time, suggested. borrowings, quotation, cut up, sampling, words, all
participate: but no one element determines the multiplicity of the
images, even if we can sometimes hear the same document in the heart of
various propositions…“
